Working Fire in 1st Due along with 6 other runs

Sunday evening started off very busy for Company 5. We were assigned to Great Oak Road for smoke in the area around 18:30. Unit 526 McCrickard arrvied and requested the box be filled, for a 200x100 barn fully involved with exposure problems. Command DC Styles had W-5 use 21/2 and Blitz Fire while E-5  laid in and put their deck gun in operation. Units worked on this incident for 4 and a half hours. While operating at this alram Company 3 with Fire Rescue 3 would run several alarms, and a brush fire while we were working. Also responding with FR3 would be W-1. On the last alarm at the High School, Timberlake E-1, and Ladder 2 would be assigned. Company 5 would like to thank all the brothers that help, if you need us call us.       

 
 
Trench Rescue Training

Co.5 members trained with the Special Operations Command today on Trench Rescue. Members decided to use the new trench at the Central Virginia Regional Training Center. The trench use was paid for by grants. This is the first training that the SOC team did with the new trench. SOC trains every month on skills used in USAR operations.

Co.5 was assigned to Thomas Jefferson Road for a mini van on fire in front of the office building. Crews arrived and found a mini van with engine compartment on fire. W-5 crews worked quickly to contain fire to engine compartment and R-5's crews came in and opened up the engine compartment with its TNT tools. Just after marking in service, we were assigned to Forest Road at the Burger King for another car fire near the building. R-5 would arrive first with the water can and contain a small fire.   

 
   
   
 
House Fire in 1st due

Co.5, Co.1 2nd due and RIT and Sq.5 were assigned to an alarm on Chestnut Grove Road for a house fire. Wagon 5 arrived to find a single story private home with smoke showing from sides A-B-D. Crews found the A side to have most of the fire damage, keeping the fire from traveling inside the home. Crews worked quickly to contain and overhaul the incident. The fire is under investigation by the BCOFR Fire Marshalls office. Units assigned were, W-5, E-5,R-5,T-5,C-5,E-1,L-1 and Medic's 5-5, and 5-6.      

 
   
   
 
New Station Update!

Once again we are very excited here at Company 5 with the begining of our new home. Since the work began with the road being put in, Craig and Monty have been there every day making sure things are getting done correct. We would like to thank E&J Lumber Company for removing of the trees at NO COST! We would also like to say thanks to Counts and Dobyns for the removal of stumps and grading, also with hauling loads of stumps away. C&D construction continues to be a leader in the project at the job site and behind,once again at NO COST, they have really showed community support. We are moving alone well, we need the community to support this project, the price tag for the new station is around 2.5 million. Utility 5 goes in-service

Utility 5 made its way into service on Friday night July 11, 2008. This was along awaited project and now everyone can relax. The unit could not have been completed without the help of Gary Sims and the excellent paint job. Also a big thanks to Capt. M. Eggleston, FF J. Eggleston, FF R. Welsh, and FF J. Starnes for doing all the work needed.

 
   
   
 
Work on new Station Begins

This morning after working since Jan. 11, 2007, progress has started on the new station. This morning Counts and Dobyns Construction Company along with Crickett Excavating started to work on the construction entrance. This will allow Sims Lumber Company to get heavy equipment in on the site to remove the trees. For the community this is your station and please support the project, to the Companies already starting to help a big THANKS.

 
   
   
 
WORKING FIRE IN FIRST DUE

Just about two and half hours after a visit from Steve Jackson ended, Co.5 was assigned to Forest Road for heavy smoke in the area near the Goodwill Store. Unit 531 FF L. Barbour arrived, and advised the best route to get to the fire he also confirmed it was a house on fire. Chief 5 (Coleman) arrived and assigned Pumper 5 to attack group, and Engine 5 to bring the water in, they laid 1000 ft of LDH and supplied the Pumper. P-5 officer DC Styles decide on a blitz attack with the blitz fire due to the home being abandon and inside the woodline. Brush 5 was taking care of spot fires, while R-5 filled a RIT assignment. The alarm was handled as a single company response and only added a Medic Unit. The alarm sounded at 20:47 and all units were in at 0:15. Units assigned P-5,E-5,R-5,B-5,C-5, Medic 5-6, and Brookville Timberlake Ladder 12-2 covered our first due while we were out. Steve you should stay longer next time!

Co. 5, Co. 12 (Timberlake), Co.1 (RIT), Squad 5 were assigned to a garage fire on Thompson Lane. Unit 543 FF. Lee arrived to find a 2 story 3 bay garage with an apartment on level 2, heavy fire showing from sides A/B/D. Command (Chief 5) would advise the first in engine to lay own supply line and put the master stream in operation and the biltz fire and a 2-1/2 hand line. Units worked for over an hours to get the fire under control. Units would operate until 04:30. Units assigned were P-5,E-5,R-5,C-5,B-5,Rescue Eng 12-3,R-1,Medic 5-6,and County 16.

 
   
   
 
WORKING FIRE IN COMPANY 1'S FIRST DUE

The fourth run of the day, was a structure fire off of Parker Road in Bedford. Assigned were Co. 1, Co. 8, and 5 as RIT. Quckily Capt. Musgrove requested a Tanker Task Force bring Co. 2, Co. 9, Co. 5. Units would operate for several hours. More information to follow, they are still out now.

 
 
WORKING FIRE IN 1ST DUE

Co. 5 and Co. 1 (2nd Due and RIT) Sq. 6 were assigned to 1976 Goshen Road for a house fire with showing, from the kitchen window at the time of dispatch 21:27. Chief 5 (Coleman) arrrived to find a 2 1/2 story wood frame with heavy smoke showing from Sides C and D. Pumper 5 would be assigned to Division 1 under the command of AC Hudson, Engine 1 would be assigned the Search and Rescue Group for a primary search. Rescue 5 would arrive and take the Basement Division, Ladder 1 assigned to RIT and a Secondary Search Group. Fire was contained to the 1st floor with damage to basement. All searchs were negative, crews worked until 2:00 am before clearing and returning. Units assigned were; P-5,R-5,E-5,W-5,C-5,E-1,W-1,L-1,County 20B, County 3, and 1601.

 
   
   
 
TRAINING

Co.5 members trained on interior fire attack operations on Sunday. The company was given the two homes to train in to make way for new businesses. Company 5 trained for two months working on RIT operations and Search and Rescue. On Jume 1 members would train on interior fire attack operations, members burned one home down, and completed 10 fires in the other home. Special thanks to Air 1 and Medic 5-7 for thier help and the Ladies Aux for lunch.

 
   
   
 
BEDFORD COUNTY FIRE AND RESCUE FIREFIGHTER I GRADUATION

BCoFR held Firefighter I Graduation this evening. Our Company had two brothers graduate, Firefighter Chuck Evans, and Firefighter Carl Folwer. Company 5 would like to say thanks for the dedicated time and effort that these two fire fighters put in the past 5 months. We congratulate you.

 
 
WORKING FIRE IN 1ST DUE

Just before 04:00 Co.5,Lynchburg Fire E-7,Co. 1 (RIT) Sq.3 and 5 were assigned to 1088 Millners Drive for a structure fire. Chief 5 (Coleman)arrived 5 minutes after the alram sounded, to find one mobile home with heavy fire showing and two other mobile homes one on side A and one on side C with moderate fire showing. At this time command advised the 1st in engine to blitz attack, 2nd due engine bring in LDH. Units used a 2-1/2 and a deck gun on the attack. Crews would control all three fire within 25 minutes of arrival. Crews would do limited overhaul due to Fire Marshall investigation. Command requested services from BCoFR Fire Marshalls Office and Chaplin Services for the three displaced families. Currently the fire is under investigation, the investigation will continue on Friday. Units assgined the alarm were; P-5,E-5,R-5,C-5,L-1,E-7 (LFD) Batt Chief 2 (LFD) Medic 7 (LFD), Medic 5-8 and 3-1, County 3,16 and 20.
